Abstract : Microwave frequency requirements will be added to Military Specification MIL-I-10, Insulating Materials, Electrical, Ceramic, Class L by a proposed amendment or revision. This report contains discussions of the new microwave requirements, the designator system of grading according to microwave dielectric loss magnitudes, the added designator for dielectric con stant magnitude, the choice of a representative test frequency, and comparison of test methods. Test data from several sources are presented and utilized. The optimum test frequency to be specified for grading Class L ceramics is the X-band range from 8.2 to 12.4 kilomegacycles. The optimum two test methods to be specified are: the rectangular waveguide resonant cavity perturbation method and the waveguide standing wave method (also known as the Roberts-von Hippel method, the slotted-line method, or the Central Research Laboratories Dielectrometer method).
