Abstract : The equations used to design high-pressure vessels, both cylindrical and spherical, are given. Where strength requirements are not severe, the elastic equations, together with the distortion enerby theory of failure, are used. For chambers having high-pressure requirements, it is necessary to resort to a shrink fit or autofrettage construction. The equations for these processes are derived herein. A short discussion of bursting strength of high-pressure chambers is also included. (Author)
