Abstract : Continued progress was made toward developing a method for defining the path-independent physical state of a propellant in terms of stress-straintime history. The general form of the dilatational state equation, developed by least squares curve fitting of all constant strain rate test data, is presented. Calculation of volume changes under all test conditions yielded values in close agreement with experimental results. Polyurethane propellant test data were processed to yield a state equation; calculations of volume changes for this propellant have not been completed. Results of preliminary studies of the effect of moisture were examined in regard to their probable influence on state equation constants. Results of all tests to date are presented in either tabular or graphical form. Preliminary results to tests of two model systems based on the polybutadiene binder (one with glass beads, the other with aluminum powder) and results of studies of the effects of moisture on dilatation are also discussed.
