Abstract : The shape of the Th A-line (L1 39.85 kev) has been studied at high resolution in the Chalk River beta ray spectrometer. The broadening of the line is found to be due to two effects: (1) the nuclear recoil due to the a decay preceeding the 39.85-kev transition, and (2) the presence of the K-conversion line of a 115.1-kev transition in B1212. The relative intensities of the K 115. 1-kev line and the L1 39.85-kev line are (0.195=0.02):1. The energy separation is 142=8ev.
