Abstract : The method of characteristics equations for twodimensional or axisymmetric non-equilibrium real gas flow is formulated for machine computation. The basic equations were derived assuming rotational, inviscid flow of a reacting multi-component gas. An approximate model of dissociated non-equilibrium air is presented which is ideal for use with the method of characteristics. Results from a simple one-dimensional program which uses this model of air compare very closely with results from a program which uses a much more sophisticated model. (Author)
