Abstract : Air leakage measurements using the tracer gas technique were carried out on two occupied onestory houses located in Ottawa, Canada, from the winter of 1960-1961, through the summer, to the winter of 1961-1962. Similar measurements have been reported recently, but the amount of such information applicable to North American building practice is still quite limited. It is, therefore, desirable to extend the available information on house air leakage characteristics. In these studies an attempt was made to relate the measured air leakage to weather conditions and to furnace operation. The measured values are also compared with those calculated by ASHRAE Guide And Data Book procedures. In addition, some measurements were made of the differences in pressure across the walls of the houses and the data related to wind velocity and direction for both summer and winter conditions. These records, together with pressure differences measured across the ceiling, indicate the pattern of air leakage.
