Abstract : The thermal conductivity, the electrical resistivity, and the thermoelectric power of Inconel 702, a material recently proposed as a thermal conductivity standard, have been measured in the temperature range of 0 to 1100 C. It was found that these properties are complex functions of both the temperature and the heat treatment of the alloy; some of the observed variations can be correlated qualitatively with the interactions of the known phase- structures in Inconel 702, and with the formation of the K state. It is the opinion of the authors that the observed dependence of the properties on the thermal history of the specimen renders Inconel 702 unsuitable as a thermal conductivity standard.
