Abstract : The purpose of this investigation was to determine the feasibility of using the field-effect transistor as a safety device to short out electrically activated squibs before they receive a firing pulse. The results of this study indicate that the present state of the art of field-effect transistor technology is not sufficiently advanced for the necessary device to be feasible or practical.
