Abstract : The spark gap discharge phenomena as applied to experimental extrusion are reviewed. The equations derived for a thick walled cylinder under transient internal loading are applied to check the stress levels encountered in two proposed experimental extrusion devices. The strength requirements of the equipment are reviewed and analysed with both static and dynamic loading. A container concept is presented.
