Abstract : An overall review is made of the work undertaken to measure heat transfer rates in a flowing plasma. It is pointed out that the lack of reliable measurement techniques (in itself due to the immature state of plasma research) has impeded progress. The current status of these investigations is that a measurable decrease in heat transfer to the stagnation point has been obtained. Afurther anomalous dependence of the size of the reduction on magnetic field direction has not yet been fully settled. (Author)
