Abstract : This program involves the construction of a 20-nanosecond modulator that will pulse a magnetron at a pulse reptition frequency of 15 kilocycles with an input power of 20 kilovolts at 20 peak amperes. The modulator is a hardtube version which utilizes an E37B thyratron in the driver circuit to permit the use of high repetition rates. This, together with a length of RG8/U cable (as a pulse-forming network), develops a 20-nanosecond pulse width. The pulse is then amplified by the hard tubes and is capacitively coupled to the magnetron. (Author)
