Abstract : The asymptotic theory of the reduced wave equation and Maxwell's equations for high frequencies is presented. The theory is applied to representative problems involving reflection, transmission, and diffraction in homogeneous and inhomogeneous media. The report contains few new results. It is intended to unify and summarize the existing literature on the subject.
