Abstract : A simple method has been devised for the continuous measurement of atmospheric temperature on a linear scale, with an instrumental accuracy of =0.06 C over the temperature range -40 C to + 40 C. A bead thermistor is used as the sensor in an off-balance Wheatstone bridge. Eight 10degree spans are covered by switching different fixed resistors into the balance arm of the bridge. Full-scale output for a 10-degree span can be adjusted to 10 millivolts with a lowvoltage d.c. source (6 volts), and this output can be conveniently fed into a null-balance-type potentiometric recorder. Switching from one span to another is accomplished automatically by microswitches on the pen stops of the recorder at both ends of the scale. With an identifying printer or marker pen controlled by these switches, the temperature-measuring system can be made completely automatic. (Author)
