Abstract : The attempt to measure the absorption edges of single crystals of iodine as a function of temperature, using polarized light, was primarily unsuccessful. Electronic noise which could not be eliminated prevented the recording of any useful information. The substitution of a photomultiplier which had a spectral response in the visible spectrum for the one with spectral response in the infrared made possible the measurement of the absorption edge of single crystals of cadmium sulfide. The cadmium sulfide measurements were in close agreement with published data. (Author)
