Abstract : The integrating angular accelerometer described herin is of unique design and provides digital readouts. The complete absence of mechanical parts in its sensing element makes it suitable for operation under a high-acceleration environment. Its advantages and disadvantages, as well as its actual and potential performance are discussed and compared with those of a high-accuracy gyro. The effect of size and weight of the sensing element on signal threshold values as well as the performance limits imposed by the present state of the art of DC signal amplification are investigated. A detailed analysis of transducer, electrical-circuit, and digitalization errors is given and ways and means of reducing them are outlined. (Author)
