Abstract : Three levels of antibody nitrogen were employed in a study of the quantitative precipitin curve. Precipitates were analyzed by the micro-Kjeldahl, Markham-Kjeldahl, and the Folin-ciocalteu typrosline color methods. Dilution with ages normal serum gave higher values than those obtained with saline or with bovine albumin. Diluting with serum from which the complement had been removed gave values close to those obtained by diluting in saline. Study of the inhibiting effects of oligosaccharides of known structure on the precipitation of antidextran by dextrans with known numbers of 1 yields 6 and 1 yields 4 glycosidic linkages gave an estimate of the size of the combining site on an antidextran molecule. The results indicated that each type of antidextran had dimensions complementary to an open chain of at least 3 units of alpha -D- glucopyranose and probably a fourth. Technics relating to equilibrium dialysis are being developed for measuring the extent of binding of the various antidextrans for the various oligosaccharides.
