Abstract : A simplified method for measuring the gas-phase sorption of carbon tetrachloride by carbon-treated fibers, filaments, yarns, and fabrics is described. The carbon-containing sample is weighed into a glass weighing-bottle which is placed in a chamber where sorption occurs at controlled relative pressure of gaseous sorbate. The relative pressure is maintained by means of an attached cold finger in ice water. The amount of sorption is determined by difference in weight of sorbent. It is also shown that reproducible oven-dry moisture contents of carbon-containing textiles may be determined without degradation of the material by heating four hours at 105 deg C.
