Abstract : RTV-2 round 8 was fired with a program of deflections on 2 ailerons. Roll velocity and aileron angles were measured throughout the flight by means of the RAE 465-mc subminiature telemetry system. Consideration of the errors in the experimental data suggest that the roll torque/unit aileron deflection (L zeta) is accurate to about + or - 7%, and the roll torque/unit rate of roll (Lp) is accurate to about + or - 15%. The computed values of L zeta and Lp obtained from the experimental data are plotted as functions of Mach number (M = 0.8 to 1.6 for Lp and M = 0.9 to 2.0 for L zeta) and height. The slender body value of aileron power (with no interaction between the ailerons) was calculated to be - 22.5, whereas the corresponding value of aileron power determined experimentally at M = 1.0 was -14.5. The experimental values of aileron power appeared to tend toward the theoretical values at M =1.4.
