Abstract : A study was made of the possible causes for decline of oyster production and of means for restoring productivity. Water samples were taken at numerous stations (designated by the latitude and longitude to the nearest 0.1 min) with a Forest bottle of 1-1 capacity. Top and bottom samples were taken when depth was greater than 2.5 ft. The analyses induced determinations of surface temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen content. The degree of turbidity was obtained by measuring the extent of transmission (at lambda of 425, 525, and 650 mmicrons), with a Fisher filter photometer, through a 5-cm cell containing the sample. Wave heights, meteorological data, and current observations were also made.
