Abstract : The solubility of H in the solid solution of the Zr-O-H system was determined as a function of temperature, composition, and equilibrium H pressure. The data were correlated with those of the related binary systems and with previous work in the ternary system. The solid state chemistry of the system at H pressures of less than 760 mm Hg and temperatures from 600 to 900 C was represented by a provisional partial ternary phase diagram. A new single- phase region, o, lying between the a-Zr and e(approximately ZrH2) phases, was established in both the binary and ternary systems. The H saturation boundary of the a-phase indicated that initially H is replaced by O on a 3 to basis in the a-phase; in the o-phase, H is replaced by 0 on a 3.5 to 1 basis.
