Abstract : An analysis is presented of the steady-state behavior of a half-wave magnetic amplifier under idealized conditions. The theoretical considerations are based on the following assumptions: (1) leakage fluxes are negligible; (2) the B-H relationship is a single-valued, step-shaped curve displaced to the left of the ordinate axis by an amount equal to the coercive force of the material; (3) the rectifier has infinite resistance to reverse current and a constant resistance to forward current; (4) the control current is a smooth dc current; (5) the minimum cyclic core flux is always greater than the flux at negative saturation; and (6) the eddy current loss is simulated by a fixed resistance connected across an additional winding which links the main core flux.
