Abstract : A method is presented by which wooden missiles may be reinforced with plastic to ensure recovery of critical projectile components. The method sufficiently reinforced the wood so that missiles were recovered after repeated firings through a smooth-bore 8-in. gun. The initial firing was at 4000 fps with no spin. Splits appeared in the wood at the open end of the missile, but these were sealed with epoxy resin. No further signs of failure were noted after refiring at 3200 fps.
