Abstract : Equilibrium constants were measured for the reactions: 3-methylhexane = 2-methylhexane (I), and 2,3-dimethyl-pentane = 2,4-dimethylpentane (II). The values were determined by direct equilibrium employing H2SO4 at 60 deg, SO2ClOH at -33.4 deg, and an equimolar mixture of the two at 0 deg. For reaction I, the values of the equilibrium constant at 60 deg, 0 deg, and -33.4 deg were 1.47, 169, and 1.90, respectively; the corresponding values of Delta F (in calories) were -255, -285, and -306. For reaction II, the equilibrium constants were 1.48, 2.40, and 2.68, respectively; and the corresponding Delta F values were -260, - 475, and -470.
