Abstract : Thresholds are determined by metering various amounts of odorous material dissolved in mineral oil into a syringe by adjustment of a 3-way stopcock; the syringe is then filled with pure air. The molecular concentration of the stimulus is calculated from the vapor pressure and molecular weight of the odorous substance, the molecular weight of the oil, and the temperature. Blasts of given concentrations are then delivered through the Nosepiece to the subject. Closely corresponding benzene thresholds were obtained in a comparison of 2 levels of dilution for 4 subjects.
