Abstract : Research is in progress on the development of 12.5-, 25-, and 5 0-ohm pulse cables capable of handling 5 to 40 megawatts of peak pulse power with a minimum of radiated noise between -55 deg and +55 deg C ambient at a maximum hotspot temperatue of 125 deg C. A tinned Cubraided inner conductor with about a 0.5-in. diameter was selected for flexibility and a high peak current. Bu and silicone rubbers were employed as insulation up to 100 deg and 150 deg C, respectively. Slab tests on Bu compound 022349A gave a power factor of 0.4 to 0.6% and a dielectric constant of 3.25. Silicone rubber DC 80 had a power factor of 0.2 to 0.5% and a dielectric constant of 3. Efforts will be made to establish a relationship between results of slab and cable tests.
