Abstract : The performance of salcomine in controlling the O content of a 4000- cu-ft chamber was evaluated. With an initial 7% O atomsphere, runs were made with approximate flow rates of 3, 2, and 1 cu ft/min through the absorbing salcomine unit and under pressures of 100, 75, 50, and 40 psig. The optimum operating conditions were about 100 psi with a circulating rate of 2 cu ft/min. Based on these results and an absorption capacity of 1.3% oxygen by weight, a unit was designed which will maintain a 5% O atomsphere over 60 to 90 days, with a continuous leak of 0.1 cu ft/min into the specified chamber.
