Abstract : A determination of the factors measured by the Minnesota Teacher Attitude Inventory was undertaken by a cluster analysis of the items into subtests. The procedure involved: (1) item-test correlations on an original scoring key; (2) construction of a new scoring key based on the highest correlating items; (3) rescoring with the new key, and establishing an item-test correlation for each item; and (4) repetition of steps 1, 2, and 3 until correlation stability was attained. Items were assigned to 11 clusters with a correlation of 0.40 or more for samples from public-school teachers, experienced teachers, and undergraduate and graduate students in education. No logical frame of reference was found to differentiate one cluster from another.
