Abstract : Experiments were derived to obtain detonation velocity data and to determine whether a mixture of Al powder and liquid O (Alox) would propagate a detonation to a second explosive. Two unsuccessful sttempts were made to detonate the Alox in a 2.5-in.-diam charge. The failure diameter exceeded 2.5 in. by an unknown amount; detonation will probably require charges of at least twice the failure diameter. The Alox mixture was stoichiometrically equivalent to the compostition Al2O3. The results indicated that the use of Alox as an explosive for theoretical studies will require a charge of 50 lb or greater.
