Abstract : Stress-strain data for Al-Cu-Zn alpha alloys obtained at a 0.118-/min strain rate at 295 deg + or - 1 deg K were utilized in an investigation of the validity of the additive law for ternary alpha solid solutions. The curves obtained for these solid solutions containing Zn and Cu were homologous with those for binary Al alloys. The simple additive law was not valid for evaluating the plastic properties of the alloys; however, the solid solution strengthening was nearly a linear function of the at.-% of Cu. The data indicated that the concept of Cu equivalent can be extended to ternary Al alloys. The Cu equivalent of Zn increased with the Cu content.
