Abstract : Pitot, static, and combined pitot-static pressure error correct ions at sea level for 17,100-, 15,200-, and 13,300-lb. weights were determined from measurements made in 3 aircraft configurations. The effect of altitude was negligible for heights up to 15,000 ft. The corrections and variation over the speed range exceed the requirements of A.P. 970; the corrections also vary with aircraft weight and configuration. Altimeter pressure error corrections, derived from the A.S.I. measurements, were within the requirements of A.P. 970 for all altitudes up to 15,000 ft. The altimeter indicated heights lower than the true pressure heights. Modification of the A.S.I. system was recommended to bring the corrections within specified limits; the pressure head could be located elsewhere. Experimental determination was also recommended of the corrections necessary during maneuvers in which a yawed state of the pressure head is introduced.
